About LuchaVista Magazine

Mission Statement:

LuchaVista Magazine is a free online monthly publication that promotes the intersections of visual and literary creative expression as a means of engaging critical cultural dialogues in the movement toward social justice.  Our readers and contributors share a vested interest in exploring the complexities of the Chicana/o experience as well as that of groups similarly marginalized by mainstream society. 

Magazine Format:

The publication will consist of four main sections:

  • “Wátchale/Features” – highlights the issue’s featured contributions
  • “Otra Vez/The Regulars” – recurring columns
    • “Dále Shine/In the Spotlight” - showcasing an individual doing outstanding work toward social justice/critical consciousness
    • “Mexicapolis” - comic series
    • “La Kitchen Chicana"
    • "The Artivistas Gallery"
  • Que Onda/Reviews
    • Books
    • Music
    • Film
  • “de Pilón/Extras” 

Please note that LuchaVista Magazine is currently soliciting feedback on its format/content and will consider submissions outside of the parameters of this preliminary format.

About the Founders/Editors:

Lori Rodriguez is a scholar-activist from San Antonio, Texas.  She received her Ph.D. in English with a specialization in Latina/o Literature from the University of Texas at San Antonio in 2008 and is currently assistant professor of Chicano Studies at the University of Minnesota.  Her research areas of interest include: Chicana/o literature, popular culture, feminist theory, borderlands studies, and Tejana/o cultural productions. 

Ernesto Cuevas, Jr. is an artist-activist born in the South Texas Valley town of Harlingen, Texas.  He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Studio Art from Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire in 1998.  Ernesto is a studio artist, graphic designer and community muralist.  The son of migrant farmworkers, Ernesto’s creative and political expressions are rooted in the experiences and struggles of immigrants in the U.S. and others marginalized by mainstream U.S. society.
